Objective: To demonstrate the efficancy of deep brain stimulation in CH.
Methods: We have selected 3 patients with cronic drug resistent CH. Following the standard criteria of selection based on sintomatology duration, number and resistence to medical therapy. Another case was classified as atypical cluster because of the duration of the attacks. The operation were performed by implantation of quadripolar medtronic electrode in the posterior hypoth alamus omolateral to the side of the attacks. The position was controlled either intraoperativly by stereo X rays and with post-op. MRI.
Results: Complete resolution within three mounths since the implantation in 3 cases. The fourth had a decreased in duration and intensity of pain and a better response to the medical therapy. This case was the one classified as atypical.
Conclusions: According to what has been written by other authors the effects of PH stimulation have a good control of the sintomatology but we still have to find a better location for other kind of headaches for an effective control of the symptoms and the better quality of life.
