Objective: Many examination methods use the vestibulo-ocular reflex and are limited in their clinical meaningfulness due to weak stimulus responses as a result of low amplification of the vestibulo-ocular reflex.
Methods: The otolith organs were examined on both sides separately in n=40 patients by static tilt, off-vertical axis rotation and eccentric rotation. The detection of the vestibulo-ocular reflex was performed by three-dimensional videooculography. A new method for analysis of the recorded torsional responses was applied, which led to a clear noise reduction by means of averaging and filtering.
Results: The new method for analysis enables an exact analysis of the weak stimulus responses of the vestibulo-ocular reflex in otolith function tests.
