The auditory apparatus of the C.I. recipients is usually investigated through peripheral electrophysiological tools represented by nerve and brainstem responses; few centers explore also higher neural auditory apparatus by means of cortical responses. In the methodology developed by our group the cortical responses are used
- before surgery to investigate the integrity of auditory pathways,
- after surgery to quantify the real post-implant gain and the temporal modifications of the responses after the electrical stimulation.
In this study we compare the cortical responses in two groups of subjects in order to evaluate the straight electrode versus the perimodiolar electrode array performances.
