Background: 23-g vitrectomy may represent a perfect compromise between 25-g and 20-g vitrectomy. However, in this video presentation we focus on the iatrogenic complications.
Methods: Single-center, retrospective, non comparative consecutive interventional case series (n= 226 cases) from October 2005 to December 2007.
Results: We show that the construction of the wounds play a critical role in the development of the complications (retinal detachments, choroidal detachments, endopthalmitis).
Conclusion: No cases required conversion to 20-g surgery. Surgeons should check systematically for wounds leaks at the end of the surgical procedures. Our data are in accord to the recent literature to enphasize the safety of this surgical technique.
