Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to inform, inspire and involve midwives how they can join forces towards a sustainable healthcare.

Dutch Green Deal: Working together towards sustainable healthcare.

To achieve the European Green Deal Goals the Dutch Government and other partners have written the Dutch Green Deal: Working together towards sustainable healthcare. Green Deals are agreements between the Dutch government and other partners with the aim of achieving an irreversible transition to healthcare by 2050 with minimal impact on climate, environment and living conditions.

Midwives and nurses: Both the midwives and the nurses, as providers of healthcare to all communities in all settings, are key to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Midwives can join forces. Both the International Confederation of Midwives and the International Council of Nurses clearly describe the global position of midwives and nurses in the field of sustainability in a Position Statement.

Joint forces: Dutch midwives collaborate with the Sustainable Nursing Foundation. In the presentation we will explain why we join forces, what we did and how it can work. We will give examples for midwives what they can do.

The Dutch Sustainable Nursing Foundation: The goals of the sustainable nurses is that every Dutch nurse works as a sustainable healthcare professional and contributes to a healthy living environment for all. To this end, we focus several goals. All the goals will be highlighted in the presentation.

For example to

1.
Promote and advocate for planetary health and sustainability, such as reducing waste and resource use and minimising environmental impact
2.
Represent nursing and midwifery when working and collaborating transdisciplinarily
3.
Educate nurses, midwives and other healthcare providers about planetary health, the impact of the nursing profession on the environment
4.
Develop and share research on how to integrate sustainability into nursing and midwifery practice and research
5.
Create a network, share information, skills and feelings related to planetary health and sustainability in healthcare

Key message: Be inspired. Be informed. Be involved. Together we reflect on how midwives can join forces towards a sustainable healthcare.

Ethics and conflicts of interest: A vote on ethics was not necessary. The Dutch Sustainable Nursing Foundation is a non-profit foundation. The research was financed by own resources. There are no conflicts of interest.
